Disgusting Footballers

Every time I watch football on TV and there is a close up of a player during the game they are always either spitting, swearing or emptying their noses.
Disgusting really.
Bad mannered millionaires. Nothing new there.

Sol Campbell and Football Do it all With a Straight Face

Sol Campbell the ex England and Premier League football player has this week shocked the footballing world by signing for lowly Notts County.
This is a huge drop - in football terms 3 leagues as he moves from the Premiership down to League 2.
Asked why he had made such a move he waffled on about Notts County being the oldest club in the land with great traditions and heritage, and he felt that they were a club going places, with ambition etc.
What he didn't mention however is the fact that Notts County will pay him a staggering £40,000 per week in wages. This from a club that pays the majority of it's players a bog standard £500 per week wage (that's £25,000 per year as opposed to Campbell's £40,000 per week or £2million per year).
For my sins I love football (mainly West Ham) but I have to say that at the moment the game has been hijacked by shallow money men who are fleecing the ordinary (traditionally working class) fans and throwing money at players (some in the Premier League earn reportedly around £150,000 per week!), agents earns literally millions for arranging a single transfer and corporate noses are in the trough at every game.
The people's game has been taken from the people and Sol Campbell's brass neck nonsense ('great traditions - nothing to do with the money etc') sums it up perfectly.
I don't blame Campbell and he's no different to all the others really, but as long as people are willing to pay as much as £40 to watch a match, £50 for the (latest) replica shirt and £60 or so per month for Sky TV then the great gravy train robbery will just keep on rolling.

BNP and the England Football Team (again)

A lot has been said and written about The BNP today and one old chestnut that keeps cropping up is the argument about the England football team that I've dealt with previously here.

Whatever you think of The BNP, I think fairs fair and rights right and this England football team argument is in my opinion just plain silly.

ITV Football Morons

I've just watched the FA Cup Final on ITV and some moron had put a thermometer at pitch side in direct sunlight and lo and behold it was showing 41.5c!!!
Of course the commentator made a big deal of this saying how hot it was for the players etc.
Are they serious?!

Any fool knows that if you put a thermometer in the direct sun then the reading given is a hugely inaccurate one. The reason for this is that the sun heats up the material the thermometer is made of and the thermometer then measures this temperature and not the temperature of the air.

So what this thermometer was measuring was the temperature of the plastic that the thermometer was made of and not the temperature of the Wembley air!
To prove this point today to my son I placed my own meteorological thermometer from out of the shade where it was reading 22c into the sun where it soared to 34c.
The record temperature for Britain is 38.5c, do ITV really think that today was the hottest day ever? and by 3c!!!!!!!!!
Do they even give a shit?
Either the production team and commentator are idiots or pretty much liars.
Neither is acceptable.

While I'm on this subject (ITV football) was I the only one whilst watching the Champions League final the other night to notice that the camera was so far away from the pitch that I (and everyone else probably) could not tell properly what was going on?

Again no mention of this from the ITV morons.
They're getting as bad as the BBC.

P.S. For the record, the max temp in London today was 23c. Say no more!

BNP and the England Football Team

Nick Griffin came under attack this week (nothing new there) by a group calling itself Show Racism the Red Card (who?).
They said the usual twaddle about the England football team under the BNP, ie: all white, and even apparently Beckham not allowed to play for them because his grandfather was Jewish.
I'll leave aside the fact that the BNP to my knowledge has at least one Jewish councillor, but my main point is this- does Gordon Brown pick the England football team? did Margaret Thatcher? did Winston Churchill? Tony Blair? of course not. So why would Nick Griffin?
Prime ministers and political parties do not (in this country anyhow) pick the national football team.
Period.
It's just another silly little smear that I'm sure is actually quite counterproductive.
I'm always amazed that people still come out with this kind of rubbish and even more amazed that the press still print it.

Ex Offender Role Models

Recently, Premier League footballer and ex convict Joey Barton has said that he sees himself as a potential role model for some of today's wayward youth. He's been off the booze now for apparantly ten months or so and also out trouble for a little while too.Which, of course is all very good.In fact it's quite a trend really: ex con turns good and lectures wayward youth on the error of their ways.BUT...... to my mind at least, there's a pretty fundamental problem in all of this. And that problem is, that in lecturing the youth of today about the error of their (potential) ways the likes of Barton (and many others who tour schools etc) become role models.Fine you might think, but in order to become these role models (which the impressionable youth will want to) they must of course become ex offenders. And in order to become an ex offender you must first of course offend..........
