St Valentine was a martyred Christian Saint but nobody really knows exactly who he was. There are several versions of who he was but as I say nobody is actually certain which version is the right one. It doesn't really matter of course.But the card manufacturers are doing themselves proud at the moment - you can now get a Valentine card not just for the traditional 'lover/husband/wife' but specifically to your son, daughter, uncle, aunt etc!
Rampant capitalism is alive and well and to hell with tradition.

Like a symphony or orchestra in the hands of a bad conductor, there is this tendency for anything these people touch to become cheap, tawdry and tasteless.
It's a bit like anything the government touches turning to ashes.
