Gay Bishop Row

The row about the election of a (second) openly gay Bishop in the Anglican Church in the USA was most notable to me for a comment on the BBC News website that came out during the row: 'conservatives say that the Bible unequivocally outlaws homosexuality, while liberals believe that the Bible should be reinterpreted in the light of contemporary wisdom'.
Mmm...
If the Bible is the word of God are we to 'reinterpret' it? Reinterpret the word of God? Contemporary wisdom? Or modern trendy PC thinking?
If anyone who believes that the Bible is the word of God really wants to reinterpret His word then they're foolish.
I think that people who wish to reinterpret the Bible don't actually believe that it is the word of God.
They just see the Church as some club that they're a member of.
Maybe they should join some other club.

It isn't about reinterpreting the word, it is about understanding the messages.

BTW the word verification for my comment was 'sinsis' :-o

My take on this, as it is always with the interpretation of the Bible is WWJS? I reckon, he is concerned about yours and my own sins, but also, wonderfully forgiving. He wants us to live better lives. I am not sure we are in a position to judge those of others, since we should be busy putting our own houses in order.

Perhaps the pertinent question we should ask is, not what this person does behind closed doors, and what they do not hide in secret, but what they have to say about the Bible and Jesus Christ.

That's the flavour of the World today, if you don't like it, change it. No matter. If you want it, have it. Just do it.

I'm with you 100%. How can you change the infallible, eternal Word of God? The Alpha, the Omega?

It's not like some scientific discover which changes all the time, depending on who's studying it. I agree - let them form their own (changing rules when they WANT to) club! Great post...

PS - lest anyone says anything about being judgemental - we ARE to judge those within the church - especially those in leadership, not those without who know not what they do. A Bishop knows the Word.

The revisionists are a pain in the neck. They'd make all truth negotiable. They'd say there's no such thing as being British. They say many things.

And thats excactly what they do. Just like Henry the Eight did. the clubs are as follows, well no not all shall we say the first where the Copts, who rant on about Mary the Virgin, and who is placed higher than the son A bit like the Catholics really, then the latest lot are the Pentis who for the most only believe the world dates back 4000 years the line of David. and then the Bible tells us the word of God is the same today and always has been. I never saw a dog fuck another dog, the yanks will not like me saying bitch.so I will not say I never saw a bitch .......................
but we must keep up with the world around us and let the clever race do what they like and when they would like to do it, it so happens that it has only come out into the open in recent years, as has the guys who, lets put it another way, , I wonder why the males married into the church. hmm" no such thing as a gay Priest, he was in a club.fingen
