Long Living Carrier Bags

Staring at a carrier bag in my kitchen the other day a thought struck me. I'd recently read that plastic carrier bags can last for up to one thousand years before they degrade!
Wow.
That's obviously longer than I'll last.
So, years from now (say five hundred years) I'll be long long gone. No-one will remember me or will have heard of me (unless I do something dramatic like shoot Tony Blair - which I probably won't), but that carrier bag, the one in my kitchen (and many others) - will still be around! It will be lying in some landfill site somewhere being gently flicked by the wind and tugged at by Gulls. And I'll be long forgotten.
Makes you think.

Diarmaid Maccullough Hates Christianity?

I watched the last episode of the BBC's History of Christianity last night and for me the writer and presenter of the show Diarmaid Maccullough hit an unforgivable new low when he blamed Christianity for the Holocaust.
His reasoning for this was that Hitler had killed the Jews because he blamed them for killing Christ. I kid you not. Maccullough (whom I have blogged about previously) is supposed to be a Christian but must surely almost hate the religion if this awful series is anything to go by (is it because he's gay? - just asking).
Typical BBC stuff this, there is I believe now from the establishment a concerted anti Christian onslaught taking place - do they want it replaced by Islam? Probably.

St Valentine's

St Valentine was a martyred Christian Saint but nobody really knows exactly who he was. There are several versions of who he was but as I say nobody is actually certain which version is the right one. It doesn't really matter of course.
But the card manufacturers are doing themselves proud at the moment - you can now get a Valentine card not just for the traditional 'lover/husband/wife' but specifically to your son, daughter, uncle, aunt etc!
Rampant capitalism is alive and well and to hell with tradition.

Alan Johnson's Sun Tanned Brits

Speaking today on BBC Radio 2 the Home Secretary Alan Johnson responding to a question about the fact that there have been 3 million immigrants to the UK since 1997 (and the rest) said that we 'should be careful here' and that the figures were 'quite misleading as the greatest number of immigrants to the UK last year were in fact British citizens returning home from living in Spain'!!!
So all of those rather dark coloured faces (am I allowed to say that?) that I see here and there are in fact not Africans or Asians but just sun tanned Brits having just returned home from a couple of years on the Costa's!
Phew.
Seriously though, there are obviously no limits to the contempt that this man (and his party) have for the British people.

Ali Dizaei

The case of Ali Dizaei to me highlights the dangers of 'fast tracking'...

Immoral New Labour

Health minister Mike O'Brien has called the sacking of England Captain (and serial adulterer) John Terry by (devout Catholic) Fabio Capello as 'crass'.
Typical immoral New Labour.
